The Android application for Yelp is now available in the Android Market. The application that was released yesterday is available for those in the Canada, US, UK and Ireland. Though it is a free download yet it appears to be missing some features that you may be asking for.
That said, for those unfamiliar Yelp is the place to go if you are looking for restaurant and business reviews, ratings and more. There is a current location feature which will show you what is available in the area, and you can even call the business or the restaurant, see photos and read reviews with just an extra click or two.
* Yelp for Android applications determines your current location and then lets you search for nearby businesses, read reviews and access a moveable Google map that enables you to zoom in/out on a location and redefine your search based on that geographic area.
* In addition to searching nearby businesses, you can also filter reviews by “Open Now,” “Special Offers” “Price,” and browse “Hot on Yelp”
Getting back to the feature which was missing, the Yelp application for Android is read only at this point of time. This means that you will be able to check out all of the info which is available but it will not be possible for you to add any info yourself.
Apart from that it is still good to see Yelp come available. For those, who are already using Sherpa, it may not be necessary since you lack the ability to add your own reviews.
