HTC Magic owners want an Android 2.0 update, but carriers have been vague about when that will happen. One carrier, Austria’s A1, is willing to go on record and say customers will receive Android 2.0 at some point in the next couple of months. feelandroid.com reader David tells us that he recently spoke with a rep from A1 who confirmed that HTC Magic owners will receive an update in March or April.
OK, I just got off the phone with the tech support people from my carrier (A1). They told me that it is GUARANTEED that the HTC Magic will be getting 2.0 and it will be pushed over the air to users on their network between March and April. Android 2.1 is ALSO guaranteed to be coming to the Magic on their network, but they do not have a fix date on that release – yet.
A company’s sales rep can deliver misinformation, but the fact that the person would provide a specific month rather than a vague “soon” or “this year” makes me more likely to think this is possible. HTC has also said it would deliver a 2.0.1 Sense update in the first half of 2010, so let’s hope Magic and G1 users will join the party at that time.
