By Google, the latest service treated to new features is Google Maps on Android 1.6 or higher, which has added upcoming schedules at transit stations, live feedback from the Places page and more integration with Latitude.

You can download the updated application from the Market, but here’s a quick look at what you are about to get.

TRANSIT

The new version of Google Maps has added transit information . If you stay in or visit a city in which Google Maps currently has access to schedules for trains, buses,  or light rails, Google Maps will now show that schedule when you click on a station.

Many people try to download the local transit application when they visit a new city, but having it built into Maps will remove the need to do that. It will also come in handy if you’re someone who frequently looks for public-transit directions on the desktop.

LATITUDE

Anyone ,who has turned on Google Latitude and actively use it to track family and friends, it will now be easier to do that within the Google Maps application. In the Latitude friends list, users can add people from their contacts list to suggest sharing info with others. The application requires approval before sharing. Users can tap the red “X” icon to rid themselves of the suggestion.

PLACE PAGES

It is already suggested that Google is on a mission to become the default place for everything, regardless of what service is already popular and established. Places is the Google service continuing that trend in the restaurant review area. The Place Page section of Google Maps now shows how people rate food, service, selection, atmosphere etc. in restaurants in an effort to make a decision on where to eat or not.
