While Flash hasn’t necessarily been missing from the Android platform, it hasn’t been present in its fullest form until recently. With the launch of Adobe’s Flash Player 10.1 on Android 2.2-equipped devices like the Nexus One and Motorola Droid 2, plenty of folks are eagerly awaiting Adobe’s AIR platform as well. Today, at Adobe’s Flash Summit in San Francisco, they gave a brief “expected” date for AIR to land on Android.

Adobe’s Flash 10.1 might not be something new to talk about in of itself, simply because there’s been plenty of leaks for the Nexus One and even the Droid, but seeing it demoed on the Droid X is still something to get excited about. That’s a 4.3-inch screen of beauty. And seeing what the future holds for this device is good. Really, really good.

Are you tired of hearing about Flash on Android and not having it on your phone yet? I know I am and with that being said here’s another android device running not only Flash but Air and it does it flawlessly. If a prototype device like this tablet can do it, there’s no reason why finished products that are already on the market can’t (now).

We already know that Adobe Flash will not be making an appearance on the Android platform this year as we originally expected. At the time Flash 10.1 was delayed, Adobe said, “Android is taking longer because Adobe needs some programming interfaces that will be available with the Eclair release of Android, due later this year.” We speculated that an early version of Flash 10 might be included with Android 2.0, but obviously that didn’t happen.

Android visitors to the Adobe Flash Player site are now greeted with the following image

This morning at Adobe’s MAX event, Andy Rubin made an appearance and had a chance to show a brief demo. Do we even have to say what it was he was doing there? Here is a hint, he was doing a demo with the beloved T-Mobile G1.

g1-flash

Andy Ruben has officially shown that Flash can run on Android. It is one thing to talk about it coming to a device, hint hint Apple, but when a device is released and shortly after is shown running Flash, it speaks volumes. Not only is it possible, but Android will be running Flash soon enough.

Ruben did not say when we will see it happen or in which way it will be delivered, but actually showing the demo live must mean we will be getting it fairly soon. What an amazing gift it would be from Google to wake up Christmas morning with Flash running on our G1. Adobe has already said that the iPhone will have flash as soon as they allow it. This is just one more way that Android and the G1 are outdoing Apple and the iPhone.
