Google Nexus One – 20000 Sold in First Week

January 13th, 2010

Although some analysts predicted sales of 5 to 6 million units for the Nexus One until the end of 2010, it looks like Google’s first phone is not quite the success the company would have wanted it to be.

iSuppli’s teardown reveals a $174.15 cost on the Nexus One

January 10th, 2010

Launched by Google four days ago and available only online for the time being, the HTC-made Nexus One Android smartphone has a BOM (Bill Of Materials) of $174.15, says iSuppli – slightly less that the Motorola Droid / Milestone ($185).

Of course, the $174.15 price includes only the Nexus One’s hardware components, and leaves out costs related to R&D, software, accessories and so on.

Unsurprisingly, the most expensive component of the Nexus One is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor – iSuppli estimates that it costs $30.5.

Next on the list is the 3.7 inch WVGA AM-OLED touchscreen display from Samsung: $23.50. Samsung is also the supplier of the Nexus One’s 4GB NAND Flash memory, which costs $20.40.

Synaptics is providing the multitouch capacitive touchscreen technology that goes with the Samsung OLED display, for $17.50. Unfortunately, multitouch on the Nexus One is not enabled.

Other components: 5MP autofocus camera ($12.50), Bluetooth / Wi-Fi transceiver from Broadcom ($8.20), 4GB MicroSD card ($8.50), 1400 mAh, 3.7V battery ($5.25).

Google Nexus One with T-Mobile Support and Android 2.1

Google Nexus One T-Mobile

Not that there’s any doubt what the Nexus One looks like, but there’s a nice fat gallery of the phone over at Engadget, and it’s very much running on T-Mobile, and it’s very much running Android 2.1. New appears to be a grid icon at the bottom of the home screen, which likely is just new UI candy for the drawer. Engadget also notes a quick-start link that points to a currently dead page at google.com/phone/support.
