The device is not available on their site as of yet but you can get one from your local stores. The device will run you $99.99 for a 2-year contract and $199.99 for a 1-year commitment.

While most of us are clamoring over which handsets will receive Android 2.2, we tend to forget about some other users who are still far behind that mark. For example, the HTC Hero on UK’s wireless carrier, Three.

However, it looks like those Three Hero users (and we don’t mean the three users who have a hero…pun?) still on 1.5 will be getting their official upgrade to Eclair once Google OK’s the transition. They also apologize for the (long) delay, saying that other devices, such as the iPhone 4 and Galaxy S, had gotten in the way of their development process. Check out the full statement below.

I’m just as shocked as you are: Sprint has finally released Android 2.1 for the Hero. I know, I can’t believe it either! Sure, 2.1 might be old news if Google announces Android 2.2 in a few hours as expected, but who cares? Hero users can finally upgrade from the stale Cupcake OS.

We didn’t expect to get any sort of firm confirmation, but we wanted to clear up the rumours that have been flying around about a 16th or 24th April upgrade date that have been flying around. Here’s what HTC had to say:-
