Huawei has plans to release a new smartphone running Android next week. The Chinese manufacturer has released some other Android devices, and we hope to continue to see more released. While there isn’t any information on the exact cost of the new device, Huawei spokesperson Glory Cheung was cited as saying the new phone would be “highly competitive price-wise”. There is also no news as to which market, globally, the device will be offered in.

A new phone from Huawei is designed to be a low cost alternative to some of the more expensive Android based phones in the UK. Launching at around £200 without a contract makes them appealing to those wanting the features without the price. One of the more appealing features is that they will be released running Android 2.2 Froyo. Users will be able to pick up one in pink, yellow or blue. No word on exactly when they will be out for purchase but we expect to see them soon.

We’ve mentioned Huawei’s planned move into own-brand phones before, with the Chinese manufacturer looking to end the Practise of making phones for other people (it makes some of the T-Mobile-branded phones and others) and start taking the credit for its own hardware.
And the first images of such a device have appeared, with Engadget currently featuring some spy shots of a Huawei Android phone – proudly labeled HUAWEI on the back of it.

Huawei has a press conference event scheduled for June 24 in Australia — at which time they are expected to be unveiling an Android tablet and showing off some Android smartphones. While there was nothing specific mentioned in terms of the smartphones, the tablet did have some rumored specs.

While most of us wait in anticipation for the 2.1 OTA, a low-end device emerges with it preinstalled. Movistar, in partnership with Huawei, has launched a low-cost Android-powered handset called the Ivy. The Movistar IVY comes with the usual Google apps and is expected to launch shortly in Europe.

While the rest of the world sits in anticipation for the official roll-out of Android 2.2, there’s still plenty of handsets out there that aren’t rocking the goodness that is Android 2.1. A real shame, we know, but a truth that we have to accept in this day-and-age. And, perhaps oddly, we are all focused on the superphones out there, or other “high-end” devices. But what about entry-level pieces of hardware? Like the Huawei manufactured T-Mobile Pulse? Well, thanks to T-Mobile Hungary, those owners are about to be very, very happy.

It appears that the Android powered Huawei U8220 will be available on the T-Mobile network across Europe from October this year.
According to prices listed on a Dutch retail website, the T-Mobile Pulse will be priced at €257 (~$366) and will be available without a contract.
