Bad news for Orange UK customers waiting for Android 2.2 Froyo on their HTC Desire. On the same day that Verizon began pushing out Froyo for the Droid Incredible, the UK carrier has announced a delay in getting the update ROM from HTC. As such, the Android 2.2 update for the Orange HTC Desire now isn’t expected to be released until mid-September 2010.

According to an article over at eurodroid, there has been news flowing in that HTC Hero users, locked in on Orange, are getting their updates (finally) to Android 2.1. So, if you’re on Orange with a Hero, go to your updates in your system settings and see if there is any 2.1 goodness lurking in the shadows.

It looks like Eurodroid has found an image of the upcoming Boston phone that is set to be released with Orange. The Boston is expected to become available with a price tag as low as 1 euro, of course that will most likely vary depending on the level of contract that you choose. But pricing aside, the phone looks to be decent. Well, assuming you can make that assumption based on one image anyway.

We’re all aware of AT&T’s recent Android releases with certain Google apps removed or replaced. These are the most restricted Android devices on the market today. Orange may be following suit with their upcoming Android devices. Google Maps, Youtube, Gmail, Gtalk and possibly Search too will all be removed in their devices.

It does exist!! The all white version of the X10 has been listed on Orange’s order page. This is my personal favorite off all the X10’s including the Mini’s. If this would’ve come out sooner, I would’ve been the first in line to get it.

Orange UK has secured the rights to sell the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 in the United Kingdom. Orange today announced that it would begin selling the XPERIA X10 in April for free, but only for select calling and data contracts. Orange’s announcement claims they have an exclusive, but Vodafone has also said it would carry the device.

HTC have released new firmware for the Orange version of the HTC Hero. The software – version 2.73.61.66 for Orange – is available to download from HTC’s support site; however it looks unlikely to be the much-anticipated Android 2.1 firmware update.

The previous ROM for the Orange version of the Hero was 2.73.61.5, meaning this is likely a very minor update. However HTC do not indicate what particular changes have been made, so we’ll have to wait until an Orange Hero owner updates and lets us know any differences.

The HTC Tattoo is already about to arrive unlocked and on Vodafone but look, it’s coming Orange too!
Standing proud on the coming soon pages the Tattoo is the “HTC Android device for the masses” and will go head-to-head with it’s Windows Mobile cousin, the HTC Touch2. The Tattoo has aGPS, a 3.5mm audio jack, 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera, 2.8″ resistive 240×320 screen, G-sensor, WiFi, compass and a 528Mhz CPU.

Orange and T-Mobile are the third and fourth largest carriers in the United Kingdom, but the two divisions of parent company France Telecom and Deustche Telekom will undertake a joint venture to make their new company the largest mobile operator in the UK. They’ll jump from almost worst to first with a combined base of 30 million subscribers.
