So, do you like the Samsung Vibrant but want to remain on your AT&T contract? Or does the Captivate tickle your fancy but you have a T-Mobile contract instead? Well, now you can unlock your Galaxy S thanks to the folks over at XDA-Developers, who discovered that the Galaxy S unlock codes are stored right on the phones themselves. The code is stored on a .BAK file, and can be accessed with a hex editor and keyed in when inserting the SIM card of the carrier you would like to use.

One of the best reasons to root your Android device, is to get your hands on some wired and wireless tethering options. It’s one of the greatest features of Android, and probably why all the carriers out there want to charge us for it (we’re lookin’ at you, Verizon). But, that’s not stopping Samsung from giving the option right from their own software, and some ingenious individuals out there from finding out how to actually use it.

Like manufacturer, like carrier… that is how the old saying goes, right? Well, either way, Bell Canada has decided that Samsung has the right idea, and is now offering a free Samsung Vibrant every day until August 6th. Entry is simple: just sign up over at Bell Canada’s registration page (Canadians only?), and then sit back, relax, and cross your fingers.

Bell Samsung Vibrant

If you live in Canada then you should hop over to the Bell Canada website right after you read this. They are giving away one Galaxy S Vibrant phone every day until launch day (August 6th). Obviously this contest is open to Cannucks only, but if you live in the frozen tundra and need a new phone, I’d highly recommend participating in this contest because the Galaxy S line of devices are pretty sweet. Its certainly going to be a big day for Android releases—one of which is the Samsung Vibrant, which is billed as “a Galaxy S phone.” And for those that may be having a hard time keep those Galaxy S phones straight across the carriers—the Vibrant is with T-Mobile.

When the Samsung Vibrant was initially announced, it was confirmed by Samsung that the 4-inch Super AMOLED display, Android 2.1, 1GHz Hummingbird processor-based device would be available for T-Mobile customer purchase starting July 21st. And, as far as we could tell, there wasn’t anything wrong with that date at all. Then again, Motorola’s got their own launch happening on July 15th, with the Droid X ready to change everything all over again, so maybe Samsung saw that as a bit of a road block. Well, if rumors are true, then that’s about to get a bit more interesting.

Bell Samsung Vibrant

Bell Canada has officially announced that it, too will be offering the Samsung Galaxy S, slated to be named “Vibrant”, in the coming months. If this device (considering it holds the same moniker as T-Mobile’s version) is similar to others, we can be expecting the standard specs: Android 2.1, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 5MP camera, 4″ super AMOLED display, etc.

Just recently, the Samsung Epic 4G was announced for Sprint, now we’re revealing the Vibrant for T-Mobile USA. The most noticeable difference is the lack of a physical keyboard that the Epic 4G had, other than that the looks are pretty much the same. The Vibrant essentially took the best features of the Samsung Galaxy S gave it a new name and put it on a different market, T-Mobile is set to release the new smartphone.
